The Best of the Best

If you asked a college graduate where they would want to live after college, Nebraska probably wouldn’t come to mind.  Despite the fact that almost half of our country couldn't point it out on a map, Nebraska is one of America’s best states.  Surprisingly, “best” is a term that Nebraskans are very familiar with.  Dozens of annual rankings are continuously awarded to the state of Nebraska.  Whether it has to do with economies or sports – Nebraska seems to always come up on top.

Forbes magazine is clearly a huge fan of the state.  They ranked Omaha, Nebraska’s largest city, as the 4th best place to raise a family.  Forbes explains that Omaha is a “steady-as-she-goes success story” and shares that the city has the 3rd highest percentage of residents who own their own homes as well as the lowest overall cost of living indexes.  The state’s unemployment rate is one of the country’s lowest, reaching a little over 4%.  The magazine also ranks Lincoln, Nebraska’s second largest city, 4th and Omaha 17th for the best places for business and careers.

Along with the booming quality of life, the state is also consistently ranked top 5 in the best fans in college football.  The University of Nebraska-Lincoln is home of the state’s only university football team.  The Cornhuskers have more than 330 consecutive sellouts, marking over 85,000 fans at each game.  The stadium’s capacity and consistency of fans have the Cornhuskers ranked as 12th for the largest amount of fans at a game.  On game day, Lincoln becomes the largest city in Nebraska.

The Cornhuskers and economy are not the only things keeping Nebraskans around.  The state’s success story continues – it is constantly recognized for their corn fed cow beef, friendly personalities, and nightlife scene.  Nebraska also has one of the highest numbers of famous people born in a state and Omaha has the most millionaires per capita.  What doesn’t Nebraska have going for it?

It almost seems unrealistic for a state to have that many accomplishments, but facts don't lie.  Nebraska is truly one of America’s best states.  The citizens enjoy keeping up with traditions, making sure the Omaha legacy states alive.  Nebraskans are proud of what they have developed and want show it off.  The state has a lot going for it, making it unfortunate that potential settlers constantly overlook it.  Nebraska just needs one chance to make you fall in love.

**Sunday night I'll post a picture on Pinterest of the Omaha Zoo, but labeled it "One of Omaha's Biggest Attractions."  This way the reader won't necessarily know what the attraction is and hopefully come back to read the post.
**Every Monday I'll use Twitter to tweet any deals and coupons Nebraska restaurants and events have.
